10 Good Things About 2025

A lot of seriously negative things made the news this year and a handful of seriously negative things have impacted me personally.

Those things matter and deserve space to be talked about.

But it also matters to remember that not everything is terrible. It's easy to get dragged down.

Every day, I write in my journal. It's mostly just a daily to-do list, but I start each day with

Grateful for:

In the morning's haste I often fill it in with easy things like "good music" or "family" or "a day off". But sometimes it's very specific and deeply personal. Either way, I make sure to do it every day. It reminds me that not everything is terrible. It helps ground me on bad days. It makes misery more bearable. I highly recommend it.

So, here are 10 good things about my year. No particular order. Just as I thought of them.

  1. I listened to so much good new music. I sit at a desk and listen to music all day. Mostly Bandcamp, some Mirlo, some others.
  2. My wife and my dog. These two really fill my cup.
  3. Trip to Montreal. Jazz Fest, family, great times!
  4. Calgary/Edmonton Trip - saw The Lion King Broadway production in Calgary then went to the Edmonton Folk Fest for the first time. Hung out with fam there too.
  5. Visits with G&G. My grandparents are in their 90s. I'm so lucky to have grandparents at my age and try to visit them often.
  6. Joined two fun bands - yes, I play music in another life.
  7. Live music. I don't know how many shows I went to this year, but it was a lot!
  8. Camping trip with pals. We went glamping in April complete with heat, a kitchen, a king-sized bed, board games, records. Not like camping in the old days, I tell you.
  9. Anime days with pals. Occasionally I have some if the old crew over to watch shows and have a laugh.
  10. Gainful employment. I try not to take it for granted that I can afford a good life in these hard times and we always help when we can.
