Break Bad Rules

Some rules are helpful. They help folks who need help. They help keep people safe. They help provide standard ways of doing things. It makes sense to follow these rules because they result in a better life for everyone.

Some rules are harmful. They hurt people who need help. They make society less safe. They often favour one group of people over another. It makes sense to break these rules because they inequitably make life worse for some in order to placate others.

Rules are societal and can vary between regions, groups of people, or even person to person. Some rules feel universal because of their ubiquity in our society or the degree to which we agree with them, but the same is true for a contradictory set of rules in a different society.

This means that we all pick the rules we want to follow.

So if the rules are all made up and we're just picking the ones we want to follow, let's pick rules that help people and that reduce harm.
