The Second Best Time Is Now

You might have heard this phrase before.

One big reason I've heard (and used) not to start doing something new and potentially difficult is that it's just too late. 'I'm in my 40s. It's too late to learn to code.' 'I'm in my 50s. It's too late to start saving for retirement.' 'I'm in my 60s. It's too late to learn to play piano.'

If you'd started piano as a young child, maybe you'd be a pro by now, right? But you didn't. So what? If you start now, maybe you'll keep it up and go pro, or maybe not, but isn't it fun to learn to do something new? It's not like you'll end up with less knowledge starting today than never starting.

Maybe the best time to learn these things is when you're younger. But the second best time is now.
