(Tech) Stuff I Use
(last updated: 2025-06-06)
While I definitely have favourites (I've been using the same laptop for 14 years and have every intention of using it until it catches fire - and even beyond that if I can just swap out a faulty part), I like to remain somewhat fluid and I do actually like trying new things. None of this is a stance or even supposed to show you what I think is good. It's just what I'm using right now. That's one of the beautiful things in technology: there are a lot of options out there. If a software fails or a company enshittifies, I can simply pick up and move.
I try to keep things FOSS when possible. If not, I try to use services that act in the interest of users.
Computers
Laptop 1 (Lenovo ThinkPad T420): Debian, trying out Vivaldi after 19 years with Firefox, Vultr to host my OpenBSD server - which serves my email (Mutt), calendar and contacts (Radicale), just started using Bear for this site, much VIM.
Laptop 2 (Lenovo ThinkPad T490): Ubuntu, Vivaldi, Bandcamp, Mirlo. Household device for normal computing, watching movies and anime while travelling, etc.
Home Server (a Dell shell with so much RAM, a couple big hard drives): Fedora Server, Vivaldi, Kodi.
Gadgets
Headphones: Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2.
Phone: Samsung S20FE, Textra, OpenBoard, more Vivaldi, progressive web apps, Feeder for RSS.
Tablet: Samsung Tab 9+ for more media, blogging, etc. while travelling.
Software
Email: A combo of self-hosted Mutt and just started using Tutamail.
VPN: Just started using Mullvad.
Websites
Bandcamp I spend all day every day at a computer, listening to music.
Mirlo More music, on the weirder, indie-er side.
urusai.social My Mastodon server of choice. This is my biggest source of social media. I probably spend too much time on it, but at least I'm not on Facebook, TikTok, etc.
Bear My blogging platform of choice these days. It's nice.
